About Somatic-Therapists.com

Somatic-Therapists.com is a directory of therapists who list somatic therapy among the ways they work. It exists to make one thing easier: working out which of them might suit what you are dealing with, without ringing round.

First, how this site is paid for

Somatic-Therapists.com is a commercial directory. It is free to use and carries no advertising, but if you go on to sign up with a therapist through a link here, this site will earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

It is not a professional body, a register, or an accrediting organisation, and it is not affiliated with any of them. The commission does not change who is listed or the order they appear in.

Who is listed

The directory currently holds 1,648 therapists, organised across 77 topics and 21 ways of working. Every one of them lists somatic therapy among their approaches, and almost all list several others alongside it.

Listing an approach is not a qualification in it. Somatic work has named trainings behind it - Somatic Experiencing runs a three-year practitioner programme, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy runs its own levels, and there are others - but a therapist appearing here has told BetterHelp that somatic therapy is one of the ways they work, nothing more. Plenty will have done one of those trainings. Some will not. If it matters to you, ask them directly rather than assuming from this listing or from ours.

The same goes for topics: a therapist appearing under a focus area means they list it, not that they are a certified expert in it.

Three countries, and what that means

This directory covers the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Professional standing is not the same thing in each: a US therapist holds a state licence, a UK therapist is typically registered or accredited with a body such as BACP or the NCPS, and an Australian therapist may be registered with AHPRA or a member of AASW, PACFA, or the ACA. We show each therapist's credentials as supplied and leave it at that, rather than flattening three systems into one word.

Who may work with you depends on where you are, so start from your country or state and check the credentials on the profile.

What somatic therapy is, briefly

Somatic therapy follows what is happening in the body alongside what is being said - the bracing, the held breath, the going numb - on the view that distress shows up as a state of the nervous system and not only as a pattern of thought. In practice that often means a slower pace, attention to sensation, and a lot of noticing before any analysing.

Sessions arranged through this directory are online, and online somatic work involves no physical touch: you notice and describe your own experience while the therapist guides the pace. It is not a treatment for any physical or medical condition. If you are dealing with pain or illness, this is about how you live with it, and it does not replace medical care.

Where the information comes from

Therapist details - credentials, registrations, years in practice, focus areas and ways of working - come from BetterHelp, the platform these therapists work through. We do not collect it from therapists directly and we do not verify anyone's standing ourselves.

The written summaries on each profile are produced with the help of AI, working only from those facts. They are written not to add anything that is not in the source information - no invented specialisms, diagnoses, availability or results. If something looks wrong, please tell us and we will correct it.

How listings are ordered

Ordering is not for sale: no therapist pays to be listed, to rank higher, or to be featured. There are no ratings or reviews here, because we have no reliable source for them and would rather show nothing than invent a score. We also do not publish whether someone is taking new clients - it changes constantly and anything we showed would be out of date by the time you read it.

What this site is not

Somatic-Therapists.com is not a healthcare provider, a clinic, or a therapy practice. We do not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, we are not part of your care, and nothing here is a substitute for speaking to a professional. We are also not BetterHelp, and we are not involved in your sessions or any arrangement you make.

Deciding whether a particular therapist is right for you is your call, and worth taking your time over.

If you are in crisis, call 988 in the US (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), 116 123 in the UK (Samaritans), or 13 11 14 in Australia (Lifeline). In an emergency, call 911, 999, or 000.

If you are a therapist listed here

If you would like your profile corrected or removed, contact us and it will be dealt with. Removal means the profile is taken down across the site, not just hidden from search. You do not need to explain why.
